Regional Contra Dances

In addition to the Fun Family Dance!, please consider these additional dances in our region:

Sierra Country Dance Society offers dances in Reno on the 2nd Saturday of nearly every month, at Plumas Park Gym at 475 Monroe St. The dances are from 8:00 to 11:00, and have a variety of local and guest callers and bands. Please join our friends there! There are oftentimes carpool opportunities to attend the Reno dance.

Foothill Country Dancers offers dances in Nevada City on the 1st Saturday, and Auburn on 3rd Saturday. They also host the annual 12-hour Spring into Fall dance in Grass Valley.

Sacramento Country Dance Society offers dances on 1st and 3rd Fridays and 2nd and 4th Saturdays. They also host the annual Echo Summit Dance Camp in the fall, as well as various dance workshops and zesty contras.

Southern Nevada Old-time Country Dancers offers dances on the 2nd and last Saturdays of most months in Las Vegas.

If you are traveling, there are contra dances all over the United States and much of the world. Check the DanceDB, or just search for the name of the place you are traveling to and "contra dance".

Once you've experienced the joy of contra dancing, you may want to try English Country Dance, square and round dance, swing dance, international folk dance, the many varieties of ballroom dance, sacred circle dance, and Dances of Universal Peace.

For other kinds of dancing in western Nevada, search for "carson city dance" in a search engine, which will reveal several dance schools and local dance events. Check Square and Round Dance Council of Northern Nevada, High Sierra Dance Club (swing), and Never Enough Ballroom which occasionally offers dances and classes at the Brewery Arts Center's Grand Ballroom.
